ELEMENTARY IN CREANOVA - 3 to 6 years old
ORIGIN AND ITINERARY:
The CreaNova school is managed by "CreaNova Concept Group" as an innovative educational center. They lead the project and develop other activities such as Ecological Catering, MakersLab, Mentoring, and other innovative technological projects. "CreaNova Group" belongs to the NEC Foundation, which is a non-profit organization with 15 years of experience in research and application of new educational models.
Our pedagogy, which covers from early childhood to Higher Vocational Training, is based on learning to learn and holistic education considering current social realities, as well as the future ones.
We offer an education that is based on Finnish teaching methods as well as; Learning by Doing, Pestalozzi School, M. Montessori, Emmy Pickler, Reggio Emilia and Self-taught learning. Our educational system puts into practice all learning processes of sensory-motor interactions through practical life, experimentations with sensory materials and real contexts so that students can develop autonomy and personal initiative.
Each group of Elementary has a reference adult that supports them emotionally and accompanies them in developing autonomy while they are also acquiring social abilities in order to relate to other-equals. The social environment also provides opportunities to achieve motor skills.
Each teacher is also a reference in different environments that are distributed within communicated and integrated spaces throughout the Elementary grades. These educational areas promote sensory-motor interactions which are considered as the key competences of these ages. Adults suggest elective workshops and activities within different areas.
Children, upon entering this community, have an open, progressive and dynamic adaptation process. We especially focus on the emotional autonomy and their relationship skills. In the first four years of the academic itinerary, the Elementary stage has three main approaches:
- Individual studies in practical life environments: Personal time management and acquisition of individual commitments like responsibility, personal care, and interests.
- Monitoring emotions and relationship structures.
- Interaction continues with the older students from the second grade of Elementary, within an open community. This way, the younger ones can take as an example the older students while growing up.
The daily routine, the care of their own body and the development of abilities in a methodical way through the board games, symbolic games, stories, pre-calculation, pre-reading-writing, various manual works have an indispensable role in taking control of the key competences.
The key competences established for this stage are: The discovery of one’s self and others, environmental discovery, communication and languages. That is why, we work on self-knowledge and managing emotions, playing and movement, affective and communicative relationships, personal and relational autonomy, exploration of the environment, experimentation and representation, observation, listening, expression and creativity.
The abilities that are intended to achieve are:
- Being and behaving in an autonomous manner.
- Respecting others communicating their own needs.
- Discovering and having initiative.
- Coexisting and understanding the world in their close environment.
The classrooms of this stage are differentiated and classified according to areas of interest and they open all the time. There are several thematic rooms, each one prepared with different didactic materials and proposals of activities in order to develop the different competences and interests:
- Outdoor spaces: Sand games, playing with water, motor structures, symbolic games, ...
- Interior spaces: stories, pre-reading-writing, pre-calculation, symbolic play, representative play, music, manual works, construction game, dining room …
There are no tests to pass a grade, nor exams as an evaluation method. Continuous assessment in different areas and estimation of the needs of each student are carried out by the teacher’s follow-ups.
The weekly teaching hours are divided into workshops, activities and, above all, free interaction time in different prepared environments and real contexts.
The main aim in this stage is to offer experiences of responsibility about themselves, about relationships with others and a contact with acquiring of key competences.
CreaNova School offers continuity in the educational model with the second stage Elementary 6 to 11 years old.
