MIDDLE IN CREANOVA - 11 to 13 years old
ORIGIN AND ITINERARY:
The CreaNova school is managed by "CreaNova Concept Group" as an innovative educational center. They lead the project and develop other activities such as Ecological Catering, MakersLab, Mentoring, and other innovative technological projects. "CreaNova Group" belongs to the NEC Foundation, which is a non-profit organization with 15 years of experience in research and application of new educational models.
Our pedagogy, which covers from early childhood to Higher Vocational Training, is based on learning to learn and holistic education considering current social realities, as well as the future ones.
We offer an education that is based on Finnish teaching methods as well as; Learning by Doing, Pestalozzi School, M. Montessori, Emmy Pickler, Reggio Emilia and Self-taught learning. Our educational system puts into practice all learning processes of sensory-motor interactions through practical life, experimentations with sensory materials and real contexts so that students can develop autonomy and personal initiative.
Every student in Middle has a mentor who is in charge of personalized follow-ups, gives them support and helps them to organize their projects, workshops, and presentations. Also, they help the students with the logbook.
On the other hand, each teacher acts as a caretaker in different prepared environments which can be either curricular areas identified by the key competences or other areas of interests according to kids ages. Teachers conduct workshops based on the curricular program with different student groups. Also, students, who are main participants of the learning process, can make suggestions according to their interests. So, there appear different subjects each year. During this stage, the development of social autonomy is especially highlighted.
At this stage, teenagers can start using computers for research and presentations. We have two main approaches to accomplish and to expand the personal curriculum during these two academic years:
- Strengthening the knowledge gained at the Elementary and developing new learning skills within real contexts using new technologies.
- Getting in contact with the academic contents of the ESO (Spanish secondary school) and becoming more responsible in the self-assessment process using their daily logbook.
The assembly takes an indispensable role in teaching how to come to an agreement as a group when programming activities, resolving conflicts and achieving common goals.
Students start to work with the competences corresponding to High, in addition to consolidating the key competences established for Elementary.
- Significant learning, through projects.
- Acquisition of skills in order to “learn to learn”.
- Significant learning with sensory and practical materials.
- Transversal learning through projects.
- Ability to solve group conflicts.
- Development of emotional and social intelligence.
- Learning different languages.
- Acquiring skills in time management, study methods and self-assessment of the learning processes.
- Incorporating skills and putting them into practice that allow the students to work as a team and make consensual decisions according to their own interests as well as the interests of their group.
- Development of communicative, linguistic, social, leadership and empathy skills that allow them to develop in different contexts and methods.

On a weekly basis, each grade has an assembly where they discuss and evaluate the projects that they are working on, the achievement of the results and, above all, they work on conflict resolution and emotional support skills from a cooperative point of view.
This allows us to work on the social models of relationships, leaderships, responsibilities, commitments, management skills, group management, conflict resolution and searching for solutions which are fundamental in this methodology.
The team concept is understood from the beginning of cooperation and coordination between different agents, where tutors are integrated as a model.
The weekly teaching hours are established by the Generalitat of Catalonia. It is distributed between projects, workshops and, above all, free interaction in different prepared environments. We are aware of the transversal nature off all subjects, that’s why we encourage free experimentation, research and taking these significant learnings into real contexts.
The main focus of this stage is the new technologies such as robotics, programming and all the digital tools of TecnoLab, as well as developing meta-projects (large transversal projects with very practical and real results).
We work on different format of exams and investigation of information as a group or individually.
We maintain the principles of transversality and the connection with real contexts all through learning processes. However, the orientation goes towards monitoring the learning processes through conventional self-assessment tests.
The main goal in this cycle is that the teenagers start getting control of their learning processes as well as contacting with new subjects, projects, and assignments proposed by the tutor.
The evaluation is continuous through teacher’s follow-ups, daily activity logbook (which is an authentic method of evaluation for observing learning processes) and logbooks from the assemblies.
There is a personal evaluation by the mentor that is carried out together with the students on a monthly basis. This is when we discover the difficulties and then agree on new goals.
